2020 Spy Valley Syrah

Aniseed and blueberry notes

Palate

The palate has layers of berry fruit with hints of vanillin oak creating a finely balanced and long finish.

Winemaking

The Syrah was hand harvested late in the season at full ripeness from our Outpost block and co-fermented in small open top fermenters. Hand plunging on a daily basis during fermentation ensured flavour and colour was extracted from the skins during this time. The wine then matured for 20 months in barrel before being blended and bottled for release.

Vintage

The 2020 season followed a similar pattern to the previous year. A warm spring allowed the vines to escape frosts, while an above-average rainfall lead to early flowering. The temperatures in January and February were more moderate which alleviated some of the effects of drought and lead to clean, disease-free fruit.
